The Ooten family are my cousins. Wayne’s mother; Nina, was my Aunt. Nina was my mothers twin sister. Ina and Nina Shockley. We used to travel from El Paso Tx to Sherman Tx to visit our cousins. What wonderful memories I had of those times. We loved Lake Texoma and all the fun we had there. Wayne, Barbara and Kevin would visit us and always brought groceries to my mothers house and they would cook some of the best meals. They loved my moms enchiladas along with other Mexican cuisine that my mom used to make. Wayne and Barbara were the kindest and sweetest people just like all of our cousins were. Barbara will be missed and our hearts and prayers go out to Kevin and all of family in and around Sherman. May the Lord cover each of you with overwhelming peace at this time. My name is Janice Trudy Marshall and I wanted to share a memory with everyone. Blessings and Love to all
Barbara ,you will be missed greatly. She gave me my first shots and helped Dr Shaw sew up knees and toes on me. Then became my wonderful cousin when she and Wayne married. . A wonderful caring person. You are dearly loved.
Barbara & I rode the school bus to Savoy School for many many years. She was always a good friend and part of the “group” that sang on the bus.
Aunt Barbara, my driving force to succeed.
When I was in school, she always made it a big deal to collect the newspaper clippings of me making honor roll, and send it to me with a little cash. This made me try hard. Made me proud. Made me drive for success. She always wanted me to drive on in my education and do the best I could, obtain a Doctorates. Well didn’t make it to that, but did strive to graduate at the top of my class in High School and then eventually my Bachelors, summa cum laude. Can never thank her enough for instilling this “strive for success” mentality into me by all the little things she did to recognize my accomplishments along the way. The little things count and they added up, sometimes just a “I am proud of you, goes a long way. These words come to mind, kind, loving, caring, and a family historian, thankful for all the memories. So many memories from my talking alarm clock, to the one shared above.
