Billye was born September 27, 1929 in Quanah, Texas to parents Paul and Genevieve (McCarthy) Brown and felt right at home at the grocery store that her father operated there. She graduated from Savoy High School and married Henry L. Hensley on September 10, 1948.
Ms. Hensley retired from General Telephone/Verizon after 35 years of service. Her retirement gave her the opportunity to travel with her mother extensively throughout the United States. She enjoyed researching her family history and documented much of her Brown ancestry with the help of her cousin, Susan Brown Davis. She collected Texas regional cookbooks and enjoyed poetry. She regularly worshiped at the Austin Street Church of Christ in Garland until the congregation moved. One of her favorite pastimes in later years was watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers.
Billye treasured her relationships with many friends. She will be remembered as an interested listener, sweet confidante and thoughtful companion in good and bad times by her lifelong friends Lena Fay Hensley, Ivy Shaw, Charlotte Pryor, Chris Blann and Jan Foreman. Her niece, Anita Machin who was raised as her sister survives her, as well as Anita’s husband John. Cousins, James Ed Brown and Jan; Joe Carruth and Judy; Martha Turner; David McCoy and Marcia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
