Charles Earnest Zimmer passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2025 surrounded by his family. Charlie was born in Carroll County hospital in Carroll, Iowa to Betty Lou Koenck and Donald George Zimmer on November 16,1951. He was raised in Boyer, Iowa and he attended Odebolt-Arthur School.
He married Patricia Herrig on May 22, 1971, they lived in Boyer until they moved to Texas in 1982. Charlie and Pat raise seven children and welcomed many people into their home. They resided in Leonard, Texas for over 30 years and all their children and grandchildren still live close by.
Charlie was a heavy equipment operator primarily known as “Dozer man” and was a welder by trade. He was a hard-working man who loved his family and always made them his priority. His hobbies were rebuilding antique tractors, and farming with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed visiting with people and would be the first to help someone in need. He will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Betty Zimmer; in-laws, Earl and Luella Herrig; sisters, Karen Reisz, Susan Reising, Joan Bauer; brother, Keith Zimmer; son-in-law, Kevin Bandy; niece, Kathy Szynskie.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Zimmer; sons, Raymond Zimmer and wife Dee od Whitewright, Texas, Richard Zimmer and wife Tamra of Whitewright, Matt Zimmer and wife Lisa of Trenton, Texas, Larry “Oscar” Zimmer and wife Kelley of Westside, Iowa, Anthony “Bird” Zimmer of Whitewright; daughters, Linda Bandy of Whitewright and Marsha Herrington and husband Corey of Blossom, Texas; brothers, Frances Zimmer and wife Vickie of Deloit, Iowa, Dale Zimmer and wife Judy of Boyer, Iowa; sisters, Donna Galles and husband Roger of Remsen, Iowa, Janie Seigner and husband Joe of Vail, Iowa; along with 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Mullican Little Funeral Home 754 State Hwy 56 E. Bells, Texas 75414. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mullican Little Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Bailey Cemetery in Leonard, Texas.
Charlie was a true friend. I enjoyed the time we had running equipment together. He will be truly missed. I think God could use a good dozer operator in heaven. My condolences to the family that I love.
