Clarence Wayne Thomas, beloved brother, stepfather, uncle, and musician, passed away peacefully surrounded by family May 17th, 2025. He was born to Clarence Vinson and Nellie R. (Clements) Thomas on June 25, 1944 in Ladonia, Texas.

Wayne was born into a musical family and developed a deep love for music at an early age. A passionate and gifted musician, he played a variety of stringed instruments but truly excelled at the guitar and steel guitar. His talent led him to perform with several notable country and folk artists, including Joni Mitchell, Johnny Paycheck and  Johnny Rodriguez among others. He toured extensively, leaving a lasting impact on those he performed with and for.

In his later years, he made his home in San Antonio, Texas, where he continued to enjoy music and the love of his family. During his final years, Wayne was cared for by devoted family members, including his nieces Renae Wood and Larissa Pugh, who brought laughter, snacks, and companionship to brighten his days.

Wayne’s legacy lives on through the memories he created, the music he shared, and the love of his family. He will be deeply missed.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Paulyne Thomas; his parents, Clarence and Nellie Thomas; brother-in-law, Howard Smith; niece, Ginny Baker, nephew, Don Partridge; grandparents, Jesse and Dolly Thomas, and Lucille Clements.

Wayne is survived by his sisters, Betty Smith and Peggy German (Paul), aunt, Nora Phillips of Irving, Texas; stepsons, Ray Smith (Donna) and Ty Smith (Holly); and his extended family of nieces and nephews.
