July 10, 1945 –  February 20, 2016 David “Mike” Michael Voss passed away around 6:00 AM on February 20, 2016 at Stone Brook Assisted Living in Denison, TX after a years long struggle withfrontotemporal dementia. Mike was born on July 10, 1945 in Odessa, TX to Angus and Dorathy Voss. He graduated from Permian High School in 1963 and earned a Bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Texas San Antonio Nursing School in 1977. Later he graduated from Anesthesia School at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio in August 1985.
Upon graduating from high school, Mike enlisted in the US Air Force in 1968 and served four years on active duty and then several years in the Air Force Reserves, during which time he received his nursing degree. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force in 1979 and spent the next 15 years working as a nurse and a Certified Nurse Anesthetist until he retired from the Air Force in 1994.
He went on to work as a CRNA for 16 years at hospitals in Waco and Lubbock, until he retired in 2010. A consummate professional, Mike was respected and well liked among his colleagues and patients alike. He received the Meritorious Service Medal in 1993 for exceptionable abilities as a professional medical practitioner, manager, educator and leader.
A loving and generous father and husband, Mike’s family was always his first
priority. Although the family moved frequently because of Mike’s career in the
military, he and his wife Susan were always active members of the community and made friends easily wherever they lived. He loved traveling with Susan and his boys, and together they visited many places within Europe and the United States.
Mike was an avid golfer beginning in high school and continued to enjoy the game throughout his life.Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan; his three sons, Scott, Christopher and Geoffrey; his sister Pamela Voss Holmes; his daughters-in-laws Lisa Voss, Kathryn Baecht, and Christina Mantzke-Voss; and his grandchildren Brittanee Rae Speer, Haley Voss, Hunter Voss, and Gideon Voss.
A memorial service will be held at Stone Brook Assisted Living Facility in Denison, TX at 5:00 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
