Dorothy Lee Harper Stroud, 95, passed away on April 24, 2018, at Stone Brook Assisted Living in Denison, Texas.
Dorothy was born on September 16, 1922, in Savoy, Texas, to Clarence B. Harper and Minnie Blair Harper. In 1936 she was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Savoy. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Bells in 1951 and served as church treasurer for 6 years. Dorothy graduated from Savoy High School in 1940. She married Clifford Stroud on December 27, 1944, in Durant, Oklahoma. They were married for 53 years until his death on July 26, 1998.
Dorothy worked at the Grayson County Courthouse for 34 years. She was the deputy assessor in the Tax office for 3 years beginning in 1952. Dorothy later transferred to the Auditor’s Office as a bookkeeper and she worked in that position 15 years. In 1970 she was elected Grayson County Treasurer, where she held the office for 16 years. When she ran for the first time in 1970 she carried every precinct in the county and never had an opponent the next three elections. She retired January 1, 1987. Dorothy loved gardening both flowers and vegetables. She was also a talented oil painter.

Dorothy lived a full life with family that loved her dearly. She was admired for a rallying spirit and always doing things her way.

She is survived by caregivers and niece, Gilda Spiller and husband Albert of Bells; niece Sharon Moore of Ector; nephews Joe Rhudy and Kenneth Rhudy of Ector and Ronnie Rhudy of Bonham; nephews Danny Stroud and Billy Stroud of Bonham and Jerry Stroud of Sherman; nieces Jeanie Coleman, Connie Foster; sister-in-law Hazel Stroud of Ector and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Stroud; parents Clarence and Minnie Harper; brother C.B. Harper; sisters Elizabeth Keyes and Laura Rhudy; and nephew Jackie Stroud.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Mullican Little Funeral Home in Bells, Texas. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Services will be conducted by Rev Mickey Wagoner. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Savoy, Texas.

Pallbearers will be nephews Kenneth Rhudy, Joe Rhudy, Ronnie Rhudy, Danny Stroud, great nephew Toney Stephens and great-great nephew Ben Stephens.
