March 16, 1921 –  March 21, 2012 Memorial services for Galion M. Moore of Savoy, who died March 21, at TMC Hospital will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday April 5 at the funeral home chapel. Wayne Johnson will officiate. Immediately following at Sunnyside Cemetery will be a military graveside service, which will include TAPS played by his great-grandson, Reese Trotter.Galion was born March 16, 1921 in Bend, Texas. He was a member of the Lord’s church and attended services at Ector, Texas. He was baptized for the remission of his sins in 1946 or 1947.
He was very interesed in pecans all of his life. He was past Director of the Texas Pecan Grower’s Association, past Director and President of Pecan Producers, Inc., an organization to promote and sell pecans for Texas and Oklahoma growers. He worked closely with Texas A&M Horticulture Dept. & Brownwood Pecan Experiment Station until his retirement. He was chairman of the Fannnin Co. Free Fair committee when it was reactivated. Galion served on the Savoy City Counsel for many years. He also served on the Savoy School Board for many years & the Fannin Co. School Board for several yrs. He also served on the A.S.C. Committee in Fannin Co., was chairman of the Fannin Co. Screw Worm Committee. His grandfather, D.F. Moore, helped establish what is known now as the Texas Pecan Grower’s Association at San Saba, TX in 1921. His father, G.A. Moore, was foreman of the Munson Pecan orchard north of Denison, TX. Galion developed a pecan orchard north of Savoy & operated it until his retirement. He was a pioneer in mechanicalized harvesting of pecans.
Galion served 3 1/2 yrs. in the Army. He was a tank driver & was wounded in France in WWII.
He is survived by wife Carol of Savoy; sons David & wife Crystal of Godley, Eddie Wayne Burris & wife Vicky; daughters Gayla Britt & husband Johnny of Decatur & Tammy Snow & husband David. Grandchildren, Buck Britt & wife Julie; Johnna George & husband Randal; Spencer Snow; Landry Snow; Wyatt Johnson; Lacy Ward; Clay & Ethan Grier. 8 Great-grandchildren: Matthew, David, & Ty Britt; Reese Trotter, Jaci Trotter; Dani, Kati, & Steven George; Sister, Betty Boone & husband Don; Brother, Bill Moore & wife June; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by daughter Janice & brother Grady Moore & parents Earl & Ard Moore.
Memorials may be made to Reba’s Ranch House in Denison, Texas.
