Helga Harley passed away peacefully at her home in Bells, Texas on July 28, 2020. Helga was born on June 5, 1936 to Xaver and Maria Wornhor in Haundstetten bie Augsburg, Germany.

She met John Harley while he served in the United States Army in Augsburg. They were married on her birthday, June 5, 1957 in her home town.

After John’s honorable discharged from the military, they moved to the United States, eventually settling in North Texas. In their 63 years of marriage, Helga and John sponsored all the members of her family to come live in the United States. Helga wanted her parents and brothers to have an opportunity for a better life. She along with John, made all the arrangements to bring her family here. Helga loved her husband and the strength and stability of their marriage impacted her family. She loved her adopted country and became a U.S. citizen.

Helga had a 40-year career as a beautician and  at one [ point owned Helga’s Beauty Shop in Denison. She was a self-determined lady who embraced hard work and treated people with respect and kindness.

Helga is survived by her husband, John Harley of Bells, Texas; brothers, Frank Wornhor of Whitewright, Texas, Peter Wornhor of CherryMound, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Xaver and Maria Wornhor.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas on July 31, 2020 at 10:00A.M with Deacon Gary Vogel from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Denison officiating.
