Jackie Leon Underwood passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025 in Sherman, Texas at the age of 78. He was born to Elbert William and Hettie Pauline (Matlock) Underwood on November 7, 1947 in Denison, Texas. Jackie knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of The Nazarene Church of Bonham, Texas. He graduated from Dodd City High School. He married Mary Kay Moore on July 8, 1966 at Parker Grove Baptist Church in Ravenna, Texas.

He was a loving man who deeply loved his family. And in the words of those who knew him best “He was a good daddy but he was born to be Papaw”. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time outside. He loved music and was well known for his jukebox that was always playing.

He retired from Texas Utilities at the Valley Plant where he formed many lasting friendships throughout his career. He also worked for and retired from the Texas Department of Corrections and proudly served as a Mason for over 50 years.

Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he loved to laugh and was especially famous for pulling a good “water” prank. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Underwood, Willis Lockaby and Pauline Lockaby; siblings, Jimmy Underwood, Henry Underwood, Sidney Underwood, Weldon Underwood, Gene Underwood, Alton Underwood, Kenneth Underwood, Raenell Blevins, Dorothy Caplinger, Rose Lee Crocker, Edith Irene Underwood, Margaret Ruth Underwood, Nancy Waitman, Gene Lockaby and Richard Lockaby.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kay Underwood of Ravenna; his sons, Eric Underwood and wife Vadra of Sherman, and Bryon Underwood and wife Misty of Bennington, Oklahoma; grandchildren,Griffin Underwood and wife Riley of Howe, Gage Underwood and girlfriend Olivia Powers of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Malori Hilton and Clayton Hilton of Beaumont, Texas, Emili Underwood of Bennington, Oklahoma; great granddaughter, Murphy Mae Underwood of Howe; also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mullican Little Funeral Home 754 State Hwy 56 E. Bells, Texas 75414. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Hebron Baptist Church 655 Hebron Rd. Bells, Texas 75414. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Ravenna.
