Joann Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 17, 2025, at the age of 93.

Born the daughter of the late Arthur James Duncan and Jewell Russell Duncan, Joann grew up surrounded by a close-knit family alongside her siblings: Betty Sue Duncan, Paul Denman Duncan, George Frederick “Freddie” Duncan, and Robert James “Bobby” Duncan.

After graduating from high school, Joann married Francis Leo “Pete” Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana. Together they raised four children: Barbara Sue Johnson, Francis Leo “Bubba” Johnson Jr., Charles Frederick “Buster” Johnson, and Bruce Earl Johnson.

In the 1970s, Joann pursued her lifelong interest in caregiving by attending nursing school. She went on to work as both a nurse’s aide and home health aide throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. From the mid-1980s through the early 1990s, she also served as Activity Director at Mullican Nursing Home in Savoy, Texas, where she enriched the lives of many residents.

Joann’s life was defined by her love of family, her curiosity, and her vibrant optimism. She found joy in simple pleasures and delighted in sharing them with others—whether teaching her grandchildren to read, quilting, or building collections of cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, postcards, books, and so much more. In later years, she treasured the companionship of her friends at the Katy Creek Retirement Community, where she remained a source of humor, warmth, and wisdom.  More recently, she cherished the comfort and care provided by the staff at Mullican Nursing Center for what truly became a full-circle moment in her life.

She is survived by her children:

  • Charles and Pam Johnson of Bradford, Arkansas
  • Bruce and Kathy Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana
  • Barbara Johnson of San Antonio, Texas

She is also survived by her  four grandchildren: Jessica Nolan, Danielle Benny, Charles Johnson, and Chris Johnson, along with fifteen great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Catherine, Collin, Josiah, Mary Claire, Connor, Gregory, Alysabelle, Amelia, Adelle, Kendall, Miles, Lincoln, Emilee, and Elijah.

Joann will be remembered as a woman who lived each day with gratitude, curiosity, and love. Her legacy is carried on through the many lives she touched.
