Bernice Humphries passed away Monday at Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home.  She was born March 30, 1916 in Savoy, Texas to Willie and Della Young Wade.  At age 5 she enrolled in Savoy Schools but due to overcrowding she had to withdraw.  She and her sister enrolled in Mehurin School 3 miles south of Savoy.  The next year they returned to Savoy.  She lived on the family farm until she married William Pirtle Humphries on November  6, 1933 in Sherman, TX.  She and Pirtle enjoyed 57 years of an enchanting and enjoyable married life.  Bernice is believed to be the oldest person living in Savoy, TX until her death.  
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Savoy and was a homemaker.
 
Bernice is survived by her brother, retired Highway Patrol Captain, B. F. Wade and his wife Marie of Sherman.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph Robert Wade, sisters Bonnie Marie King, Alma Jean Matlock and Jesse L. Wade.
 
Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Savoy, TX.  Reverend Lowell Howard will officiate.
