July 24, 1931 –  February 7, 2011 Lowell was born the son of Morris Carl and Inez Madeline Walker Mortensen on July 24, 1931. He married Jennie Fay Smith on May 13, 1950 in Lovington, N.M. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force for 21 years. He served in Europe, Nebraska, Louisiana and one tour of duty in Vietnam before retiring in 1967. After moving to Bells, Lowell and Jennie Fay ran the Mortensen Sandwich business for several years. Lowell returned to school at East Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After graduation he became a state meat inspector for the State of Texas. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
