September 4, 1930 –  June 7, 2008 Sammie was a graduate of Savoy High School and recieved his Masters of Education Degree from East Texas State College in Commerce, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Sammie was a Englins-Spanish secondary teacher and a member of the North Texas Council of Government. He was ESL teacher volunteer for various organizations and local schools.
