September 27, 1936 –  October 17, 2013 Velma Jean Jarrell Blanton left this earth, heaven bound, on Thursday, October 17, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Bonham, Texas on September 27, 1936, Velma was the third child of Oscar Lee and Mattie Jane Carter Jarrell.
Velma married the love of her life, William H. “Bill” Blanton, on March 29, 1951, in the home of the Reverend Leon Martin in Bonham, Texas. Their union was blessed with three daughters Connie (Turner) Almon, Caron Arensberg, and Janie Sieber. The family moved to Sherman in 1957.

Velma was a accomplished seamstress and was employed by Joe Covey and Pool’s Mfg. until 1965 when she and Bill bought a tin shop which later became Blanton’s Sheet Metal. They owned and operated this business until their retirement in 1985. After retirement, Velma and Bill enjoyed traveling, hunting, and their farm.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wilber Lee Jarrell, son-in-law Robert E. “Bob” Sieber, and granddaughter Amy Meshell Bassham.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, daughters, sister, Vera (Walter) Knight, grandchildren – Royce (Christy) Bryan, Ben (Mandy) Bryan, Cara (Errin) Luton; great-grandchildren – Shelbey Bryan, Abbey Bryan, Amelia “Milley” Bryan, Austin Bryan, Amy “Kaylee” Luton, Hunter Luton, Steven Krewson, Aaron Krewson; great-great granddaughter Katie Retzer and a great-greatgrandson expected in January, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Home Hospice of Grayson County for the wonderful care given, and to the numerous friends and family members for their prayers, visits and loving care you have shown to Velma and Bill through the difficult times during her illness.

She was an angel on this earth who devoted her life to taking care of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We all love you and will miss you.

Funeral services for Velma will be held at Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at 2:00 P.M. at the chapel. Burial will be at Carson Cemetery in Ector, Texas.
