October 25, 1929 –  January 4, 2014 Vernon was born in Ladonia, Texas in 1929. He married Doris Walt on September 24, 1949 and moved to Dallas. Together they raised their 6 children in McKinney.
Vernon worked for R. C. Cola for 32 years and then started his second career with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. He retired from the Sheriff’s office in 1992.

Vernon’s passion for woodworking was evident all around. He loved making things, especially birdhouses. Vernon loved watching birds from his kitchen window. His love for nature was second only to his love for his family.

Vernon is best remembered as a kind and gentle man.

Vernon is survived by his children Brenda and Dick Hunnicutt, Mike and Melba Lansford, Scotty and Annette Lansford, Karen and Bill Cox and Sharon and Steve Toth, 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris and son Tommy Lansford.

Graveside services will be at 11:00AM on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Ridgeview Memorial Park in McKinney, Texas. The family will receive friends at Mullican-Little Funeral Home in Bells/Savoy, Texas from 2:00PM until 4:00PM on Sunday, January 5, 2014.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Vernon’s name to Grayson County Home Hospice, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, TX 75090.
