Born in:
Fannin County, Texas
Resided in:
Katy, Texas
Marilyn Schiflett was born on December 23, 1940, to Ed and Mary Bullard on a quiet little farm in Fannin County, Texas.
Marilyn spent her childhood on that farm with her family and on Gods land learning all a little girl could. When she was twelve, her parents surprised her with her very own built-in best friend for life, her sister Connie. Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, John Schiflett, shortly after graduation where she would follow him to Austin, Texas to welcome their first child, Scarlett. Marilyn dedicated her life to her family from there on, following John around the state of Texas where they welcomed two more children, Jason and Aaron, before they finally settled down in Houston, Texas.
Marilyn spent many years as a dedicated mother in Houston. Making sure her home was always open with love, smelled of homecooked meals for anyone that was hungry, and making sure school projects were never lacking creativity. From over-the-top Halloween houses, never ending Thanksgiving tables with guests that weren’t ever her own kin at times, to Christmas’ that will never be forgotten, Marilyn made sure the memories in that Houston home lasted a lifetime for her children and those alike. Marilyn would go onto open a florist shop in the back of this Houston home when her passion and creativity got the best of her and wanted more out of life. Marilyn was always looking for new ways to let her creative side come out, and this is where she found the love for painting. Painting with oil paint quickly became a fast hobby that she found to be the most relaxing and best way she could express herself through art and passion that was truly hers alone and what she was best known for!
When Marilyn became a grandmother later in life, she would prove again her dedication to her family when she once again packed herself up and moved to be closer to her family in Katy, Texas. Even as a dedicated grandmother she was still a daughter who loved her mother fiercely and would become a caretaker for her own mother where together they would join multiple clubs and volunteer organizations such as the Red Hat Ladies, a dominoes club, volunteering at the hospital together and so much more. After Marilyn’s mother passed Marilyn found a newfound passion in painting again and found her voice in the church choir at Second Baptist in Katy, Texas where she would sing almost every Sunday, at their Christmas programs, Easter Sundays, and much more. Marilyn was so proud to be a part of Second Baptist and their choir program and invited everyone to their services when possible. Marilyn left a mark on this world that will forever be remembered as a light in a dark place. She shined the light of Jesus to all those that would listen, preached the good word, and would want anyone to know that when the time comes Jesus is ready to welcome you with open arms and love you.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Mary Bullard, and the father of her children John Schiflett.
She is survived by her three children Scarlett, Jason, and Aaron, her six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her sister Connie and brother-in-law Ronnie McCrary, her nephew, great nephew, and her unforgettable BUBU cousins.
