Shirley Jean Houston

Shirley Jean Houston passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.  Shirley was born in Alexander City, Alabama on December 5, 1939.

Shirley Jean McCrary Houston was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose life was defined by love, kindness, strength, and devotion to her family.

She treasured her family and the memories they shared. Her presence brought warmth and comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Shirley enjoyed a long and rewarding career with local banks, Austin College, and TMC. She was also an accomplished artist whose paintings are displayed throughout the local community. After retiring, Shirley shared her passion and talent by teaching oil painting to others for many years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wesley Ray Houston; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Schneider; and her brother, Rex McCrary.

She is survived by two of her three daughters, Donna Houston Crook and husband Darrell, and Jania Houston Schneider and husband Phillip; son in law, Mark Schneider; her grandchildren, Lisa Schneider Medford and husband Steven, Justin Schneider and wife Hannah, Crystal Schneider Holcomb and husband Duane, Jermery Schneider and wife Amber, Toni Crook Hinkle and husband Bryan, Jennifer Schneider Phillips and husband Devon, and Dustin Crook and wife Lindy; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She is also survived by her brother, Ronnie McCrary and wife Connie; her sister-in-law, Nancy McCrary; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Graveside Services will be Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Washburn Cemetery Bells, Texas.
