Charles “Charlie” Ray Harris passed away peacefully in his home on September 20, 2024 at the age of 94. Visitation will be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Bells, Texas on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 1pm – 2pm and the funeral service to directly follow at 2pm. Burial will follow at Washburn Cemetery in Bells.

Charlie was born to Benjamin Kearny Harris, Sr. and Maurine Harris on October 17, 1929 in Bremond, Texas.

Charlie joined the Navy when he was 20 years old and was stationed in Hawaii where he and his sweetheart, Jeanell, got married on March 7, 1952. After completing his time in Hawaii, he moved back to Texas with his bride. He worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco company as a sales representative until he retired. Charlie enjoyed retirement by traveling with his wife, and friends, around the United States and mostly enjoyed visiting south Texas (“The Valley”). Charlie was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Charlie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Jeanell Harris; father, Benjamin Kearny Harris, Sr; mother, Maurine Harris; brother, Benjamin Kearny Harris, Jr.

Charlie is survived his children, son, Terry Harris and wife Debbie of Commerce, Texas; daughters, Tammy Wells, Shannon Payne and husband Gary of Bells.

Grandchildren, Christopher Harris of Round Rock, Texas, Lana Art and husband Eddie of Liberty Hill, Texas; Samantha Layton and Bryan Layton of Bells; Coltin Payne and wife Kelsey, and Addisyn Payne of Bells.

Great-Grandchildren, Avery Layton of Bells, Raeley Thompson and Taylor Thompson of Van Alstyne, Texas; Abigail, Madilyn, and Josie Payne of Bells, Texas; Barrett Layton of Whitesboro, Texas; Brayden Harris of Round Rock; Amelia Clancy and Jacob Art of Liberty Hill.

Great-Great Grandchild, Charlie Clancy of Liberty Hill; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Charlie “Papa” will be immensely missed, but we are comforted to know that he is reunited with his sweetheart, Jeanell, and in the arms of the Lord.
