May 31, 1932 –  December 23, 2014 Memorial service for Edna Potter will be held Monday, December 29, 10:30 am at Mullican-Little Funeral Home in Bells. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 28, 4-6pm also at Mullican-Little Funeral Home. Her service will be conducted by her son-in-law, Bob Monroe and her ministers, Todd Catteau and Basil McClure. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Monroe, Shane Potter, Rob Sever, Tony Potter, Max Robertson and David Griffith. Honorary pallbearers are Tanner Sever, Brody Sever, Emily Rose and Alissa Rose.

Edna Lavada Griffith Potter was born on May 31, 1932 in Vandervort, Arkansas to Basil and Lular Griffith. She was the youngest of seven children. She spent most of her childhood in Arkansas before moving to Oklahoma and then her family eventually settled in Whitewright, Texas.

She met Leo Potter from Denison, Texas and they were married on August 5, 1950 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Their marriage was blessed with one son and two daughters. In the early years of their marriage they moved around to locations where Leo could find work as a brick mason. They eventually settled in Irving, TX. To help financially support their family, Edna babysat children in her home before becoming the head office cashier at K-Mart. She later transferred to the Sherman store when their family moved to Bells. After 20 years of service, she retired from K-Mart in 1993. She was a long time member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ in Denison.

After suffering with Alzheimer’s for several years, at the age of 82, Edna passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 23, 2014 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo Potter; her granddaughter, Lisa Potter; three brothers, Dan Griffith, David Griffith and Jake Griffith and two sisters, Awana Morris and Ruby Griffith.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Shirley Monroe and her husband, Bob of Flower Mound; son, Bobby Potter and his wife, Kim of Denison; and daughter, Connie Thompson and her husband, J. W. of Bells; grandchildren, Jeremy Monroe of Dallas, Misty Potter of Lewisville, Jamie Sever and her husband, Rob of Highland Village; Jenny Horn and her husband, James of Whitesboro; Kim Watson of Bells; Shane Potter of Pflugerville and Stacey Potter of Austin; great grandchildren Tristan and Katelan Horn, Tanner and Brody Sever and Emily and Alissa Rose; sister, Pat Gunter of Tom Bean; sister-in-laws, Nadine Middleton of Denison, Earlene Potter of Bells and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of floral tributes, the family wishes for memorials to be sent to the Children’s Department at Park Avenue Church of Christ, 3000 South Park Avenue, Denison, TX 75020 or the Gregg Pearson Foundation, 2531 Carl Road, Arlington, TX 76015.
