Melba Beatrice Fisher

October 13, 1926 -  February 15, 2006 Melba attended school in Goldthwaite and later moved to Wayside when in the sixth grade and graduated in 1943. She graduated from West Texas Teachers College in Canyon, TX in 1961 and was hired as principal of the first school for the severely mentally handicapped at Amarillo ISD. She recieved her Master's Degree in 1976 in Special Education at Texas A&M University in Commerce. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Savoy.
