I just learned of Charlie’s passing. My family lived next to his family on Barney Street in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in the 50’s My father (Thomas – Tom) was a friend of Charlie’s older brother Claude. Claude and Dad graduated from High School together. Blanche and Rollie named Charlie’s middle name from Dad’s. We moved from Wilkes-Barre to Bloomsburg, PA in 1954. Mom and Dad kept in touch with Rollie and blanche and the other Benner’s including Charlie. When I was a little boy, I had a Teddy bear named Charlie – named after Charlie. I still have it. The few years before his death, I spoke on the phone with Charlie at least once a year and reminisced. I am very sorry to hear about Charlie’s passing. He was a good man and a significant positive part of my childhood history
I just heard of Charlie’s passing by checking the internet. I had been in touch with him with phone calls and cards regularly for several years. No response the last two years. Charlie lived next to my family when I was a young child in the early 1050s. His older brother Claude graduated from high school with my father Tom Sr. Charlie’s parents Rollie and Blanche were wonderful people and fiends of my parents. I think Charlie’s middle name came from my father’s name. I named my Teddy bear after Charlie. I still have it! I thank Charlie for being a good friend and a positive part of my childhood and beyond. My parents thought the world of Charlie. A good man….
