Houston Garner passed away December 20, 2017 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. He was born in Amity, Arkansas, July 13, 1928 to Homer and Beatrice Deaton Garner. As a child he moved with his family to Whitewright, Texas. On April 26, 1946, he married Alma Jo Sanderson, known affectionately as Jody. With Jody at his side, Brother Garner was saved in April 1951, and the following year felt the call to preach the gospel. He began his ministry at Kentuckytown Baptist Church, where he was ordained in November 1956. In March of 1963 he answered the call to preach at the Hebron Baptist Church. With Jody as a constant source of support and inspiration until her passing in August 2012, Brother Garner carried out his mission to preach God’s unfailing love and salvation. He retired in May 2017 after 54 years of service at Hebron Baptist Church.
Houston was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jody Garner; daughter, Rita Garner; and son, Larry Garner.

Houston is survived by daughter, Vickie Landrum and husband Larry; grandchildren: Mindy Garner, Steven Garner and wife Suzie, Rita Fulmer and husband Ty, Lori Sanders and husband Jeff, Kayla Murphy, and Renee Christian; great-grandchildren: Nylan Smith, Hayden Fulmer, Hannah Fulmer, Eli Fulmer, Aubrey Tharpe, Zane Rider, Seth Swaim and Shae Swaim; great-great-granddaughter, Presley Porter; precious friend, Pat Powell; his church family and a host of friends.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Friendship Center at the Hebron Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2017 at Hebron Baptist Church in Bells, conducted by Rev. Hal Burkhead, Brother John Arnold and Pastor Russell Clemens. Pallbearers will be Philip Ferguson, Justin Ferguson, Dennis Redding, Gary Monroe, Shawn Poe, and Stephen Meek. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Whitewright, Texas.
