Jacqueline Pauline (Desorme) Aten, age 90, peacefully entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, William Aten; her daughter, Deborah Aten; her sons, Kevin Aten and Douglas Aten.

There is no question that Jacqueline’s presence will be missed by her family and community. She was known to most as Jackie or Grandma Jackie. Her journey through life was an adventure that most can only dream of. Jacqueline was born in France. France is also the place where she met the love of her life, Airman William Lee Aten. Neither of them imagined that a cocktail in a local bar would result in a whirlwind romance that turned into 50 years of marriage. Even after William (clearly not a great dancer) threw Jacqueline (an amazing dancer) into a fireplace after they came out of a spin on the dance floor, she married him on February 3, 1959. The spicy bartender and a foreign airman not only made but honored a lifetime commitment. Together with their four children they traveled the globe creating the most amazing memories as a military family. After retirement and an empty nest, the two settled in the quaint little town of Savoy, Texas in 1986. Jackie was an avid animal lover and If she left the house claiming she was “just going to look” at Trade Days, everyone knew there would be a new addition to the household. She was given her very own nickname by the animal vendors, Frenchie. She set an example as the matriarch of our family. There was never a family member turned away if they needed a place to stay. Holidays were always filled with family, a formal set table, a meal big enough to feed an army, and entertaining stories. It was stated that to know Jackie is to love Jackie.

You have earned your eternal rest. Your family is grateful for all of the memories and life lessons you have left us with. Your memory will live on in future generations through the stories everyone will have about their French Grandmother who learned to speak English from watching “I Love Lucy” reruns.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Kinnebrew and husband Frederick; daughter-in-law, Tina Aten; grandchildren, Trista Aten, Ashley Speed, Brittany Speed and significant other Kyle Allen, Misti and Lloyd Long, Mason and Carli Aten, Michael and Laura Barron, Marshall and Andrea Barron; great-grandchildren, Marcus Ball and significant other Madeleine St. Amour, Madison Ball, Laney Moore, Kasyn Morris, Jade Hays, Jacob Smith, Noah Smith, Kayden Speed, Dylan Speed, Grace Kelly, Isabella Kelly, Addison Ball, Natalee Ball, Easton Aten, Laramie Aten, Kimber Aten, Gunner Barron, Archer Barron, Colt Barron, and Case Barron; great-great-Grandchild, Olivia Ball.
