A special lady departed for heaven on Sunday, March 30, 2025 in Sherman, Texas at the age of 95. Mary Bell (Pointer) Hopper, a Bells native was born August 31, 1929 to Lonnie B. Pointer and Mattie (Byrd) Pointer. She grew up in a big loving family and delighted in sharing stories about childhood antics with her brothers, sisters, and cousins. She graduated from Bells ISD in 1947. Mary Bell and Edwin A. Hopper were married February 23, 1947 at the home of her parents.

Mary Bell joined the Bells United Methodist Church in 1945. At the time of her death, she was heralded the matriarch member at the church. She was the oldest member and had the longest membership. She was an active member of United Methodist Women and for many years serving as the treasurer.

Mary Bell worked for Johnson and Johnson in Sherman retiring in 1990 with 30 years of service. She continued to enjoy Johnson and Johnson retiree events.

She was a member of the Bells Chapter #1110 Order of the Eastern Star, and after it dissolved transferred to Carpenters Chapter #183 in Sherman. Mary Bell served as Worthy Matron in 2001 to 2002 and her brother Bill Pointer served as Worthy Patron.

Mary Bell was well known for her kindness and service to her community, friends, and family. She spent many hours caring and loving her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mary Bell was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Hopper; her parents, Lonnie and Mattie Pointer; siblings, W.C. (Bill) Pointer and wife Jackie, Josie Tarpley and husband Bob, Janie Cowart, Robert Pointer and wife Dee; and grandson, Landon Roberts.

She is survived by three daughters, Gloria Roberts and husband Lindy of Georgetown, Texas, Beverly Woods and husband Charles of Norman, Oklahoma, and Denise Wardell and husband Deneen of Bells; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and as she always said “her other 23 daughters”. Mary Bell cheerfully said, “my family is like the United Nations”, everyone of her tribe is precious.

She asked that love offerings be given to the First United Methodist Church, Bells in celebration of it 145-year Birthday.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Bells 301 S. Pecan Street Bells, Texas 75414. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
