We are deeply saddened upon hearing of Melvin’s passing. Our deepest sympathies and prayers for Melvin’s family.

Mel the nicest person I ever came across. Joseph Allan. Wappinger Falls,N.Y
.
I met Melvin nearly twenty years ago. I cannot speak enough, there are not enough words, to describe the type of man Melvin was. A friend to everyone, he’d give the shirt off his back, he was kind, generous, funny, and a rascal! His Mel-isms, as we like to call them, are unforgettable. He is unforgettable. This is such a heartbreaking loss. My condolences and prayers go out to all Melvin’s family – please know that he was well loved and respected here in NY. He will certainly be missed…
I was so saddened to hear of Mel’s passing. He was one of the kindest people I ever met in Fishkill. He truly loved us all and would do anything for any of us. When you move away you naturally miss the people you hung out with but when one of us leaves this world for the next, it’s particularly sad for those of us left behind. I will treasure the memories I have of Mel.
melvin was the definition of a great.man
thought of others before himself
always kind and thoughtful and considerate
one of the few people i would call my friend
he will be missed
Mel was a pleasure to be around. We all loved being around him. He was loved by all us. Truly, one of a kind!

a clever sense of humor!
he will be missed ❤️
Melvin was simply, the best. Although I only knew him for a short time, I will never forget him…
R.I.P Mel. You left your mark on all of our hearts here in Fishkill. We love you.
A Tribute to Our Friend Melvin:
It’s difficult to put into words all of the things Melvin has meant to each of us. He was an amazing man who would give you the shirt off of his back – generous to a fault. He was kind, always willing to lend a helping hand, he was funny, a rascal and a flirt with the ladies. He was a sportsman – spending many years golfing with his buddies, and he was a huge fan of brisket and barbecue – smoking and drinking from the early hours with Jim Watts so they could spoil us…
He was unique for sure! His Mel-isms not only made us all laugh but we looked forward to them, never growing tired, we waited until the next one popped out of his mouth. Some of our favorites:
“Mikey – you’re as rich as a fist up a bull’s ass”
“Man, I’m sweating like a whore in church.”
“ That one’s as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.”
‘Shining like a diamond in a black goats ass.”
“You’re cuter than a speckled pup, you are.”
“You’d complain if they hung you with a new rope.”
“You’re better than a pocket on a shirt.”
“Ain’t nothing wrong with me but my paycheck.”
“I’m off like a prom dress.”
If Mel was having fun and an especially good day you’d here him yell out to which ever bartender was working – “buy the bar!!!” He took as much enjoyment in the yell as he did in the buy. He loved doing it and I can still hear him saying it with his southern Texan accent.
He loved this bar and all of us with all of his heart. We were his family away from home and he was our family. I hope he left this world knowing what an impact he made on us and how much we loved him. There will never be another Melvin Lee Whitmire. He was a one of a kind gem and we’re all luckier for having had him here with us for all of these years. The absolute best of the best. I (we) hope he’s up there causing a ruckus, raising hell and giving heaven a good shake up!
So with that we raise a glass to our friend, wish him godspeed, and may his spirit forever be felt here at The Whitehouse…
To Melvin.
With all our love.
Mel,
You were one of a kind. You will be missed by many. Good bye old friend.
Saddened by Melvin’s passing. The family is in our prayers.
I was very sadden to hear of Melvin’s passing. I knew Melvin back in the 1980’s in the Urban Cowboy days with Western music & clubs. We all had a great group of friends we all knew and had lots of fun. I have fond memories of Melvin. Prayers to his family & other close friends.
We are both so sad that Melvin has passed. Anyone that knew him, loved him. There was only one “Merv” and no one will take his place. Loving and funny memories always! Love, Andy and Tammy
Deepest sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Melvin.
Sincere condolences to your family. I am so very sorry for your loss. May God provide the necessary peace and comfort to your family and friends during this difficult time. Please remember these words of encouragement from the Bible: “ Jesus plainly told her: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.” —John 11:20-25.
As time passes and lives take different courses, sometimes all you have left is memories. They are priceless. Have not seen Melvin in years, but think of him every time I pass the land we spent time at and when I think of golf. My sincere condolences to family and friends. I will never forget my trip to Duncan’s Three Par with Melvin and some time we spent on his land.
