October 20, 1927 – September 25, 2013 Nina Belle Barnes, age 85, of The Renaissance in Sherman and formerly of Whitewright, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 25th with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.
Nina was born October 20, 1927 to parents Jason Ernest Hood and Lola Katherine Campbell Hood. She graduated from Whitewright High School in 1945. She attended Grayson County Junior College and earned an associate degree while raising her children. She married James Wayland Barnes on January 16, 1950 and they shared 47 years together and raised two children, Dale and Kathy. Nina was a beautician and enjoyed all the lifelong friends she made along the way. She most enjoyed being a mother and supporting her children in any way possible. She was a Baptist and her strong faith kept her going during the last year.
Nina was preceded in death by her husband on January 29, 1997 and her son on February 1, 2013 as well as her parents and 2 brothers.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Kathy Johnson and son-in-law Mark of Whitewright as well as her sisters Junie Norris of Platter, OK, Marie Chism and Edna Christian both of Whitewright. She is survived by granddaughters Mandie McKissick and Jessica Bellows. She has 3 great-grandchildren Kenzi, Daelyn and Ayden. She also has many nieces and nephews who she loved as her own and her many friends at The Renaissance.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2pm at Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel in Bells/Savoy, Texas. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright. Reverend Houston Garner lifelong friend of Hebron Baptist Church and Reverend Terry Paul Cunningham will officiate.
