Peggy Jean Caplinger passed away peacefully in the presence of her family in Denison, Texas at the age of 81. She was born on February 3, 1941 to Hubert Ray Barnes and Mildred Cloris (Newman) in Overbrook, Oklahoma, the second of five children. She was a loving and caring mother and Nana. Peggy married the love of her life, Kenneth “KC” Caplinger on March 15, 1974. She has been called an “angel on earth” for her lavish and consistent love and care. Peggy had a sweet and nurturing spirit. She truly loved people and those who met her were captivated by her spirit.
She was giving and thoughtful making unique craft books that were given away for different occasions to special people in her life. These books were one of a kind, personal keepsakes, she designed to celebrate each person’s life. Her desire was these books would help people capture and keep memories. Following the death of the friend’s mother, Peggy created a craft book for her friend using personal items of that friend’s mother that Peggy purchased at the family’s garage sale.
Peggy was a dedicated homemaker and an accomplished cook; her fried chicken was wonderful, and she often fried the fish her husband caught and made homemade hushpuppies. Her coconut cream pie was heavenly! This lovely, kind- hearted lady also had a quick wit and could be determined, hard headed, and feisty. She touched so many people and leaves a legacy of love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Ray Barnes and Mildred Cloris Newman. Husband “KC” Caplinger; sons, Randy Watson, Kenny Caplinger; sisters, Mary Ann Lakey, Sue Stilz and brothers Tommy Barnes and Billy Barnes.
She is survived by her daughters Cindy Downs of Savoy and Candy Nelson of Bells. Grandchildren Chad Downs and Tracy King of Ravenna; Brittney Gorton and fiancé Kyler Durham of Denison; Bryce and Brandi Watson of McKinney; Chris Thomas and fiancé Rachel Olsen of McKinney; Kyle and Lisa Caplinger of Cookville, Texas; Kole and Brooklin Caplinger of Durant, Oklahoma; Autumn Caplinger of Denison and Austin Caplinger of Tacoma, Washington plus 16 great grandchildren with one on the way; three great, great grandchildren; and brother Steve and wife Jenee Barnes of Gainesville, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Chad Downs, Keeton Gorton, Bryce Watson, Kole Caplinger, Kyle Caplinger, Chris Thomas and honorary pallbearer will be Steele Gorton.
The family expresses their appreciation to the medical staff at Texoma Medical Center, Denison who cared for our Mom in such a loving and caring way.
Was an awesome lady
I love you momma! I’ve always told you I hope people think I’m at least half as sweet and kind of a woman as you are and that would make me so happy. ❤️ Rest in peace now. I will see you again. ????
I have nothing but great memories of Peggy-even when we sounded like a herd of Buffalo upstairs! Praying God brings all of you peace and comfort during this difficult time.
Peggy was a precious soul and made a positive impact on everyone she met. She leaves a legacy of love as well as an enormous hole in this world. Praying for all the family and friends who so loved Peggy.
Peggy and Kenneth were Della and my best friends. The most compassionate, caring person I have ever known, third only to Della and my mother! I cherish the book of memories she made for Della.
She was an inspiration to me. She was a kind & gentle sole with a contagious laugh, a creative mind and a little spark of feistiness. She will be truly missed.
So many great memories with the Caplingers! From my frequent visits with mom and dad (Dean and Della) – especially those New Years parties – to Mrs Peggy catering our wedding of fried fish caught by Kenneth, and those amazing hushpuppies….all the way to North Dakota when they came to visit. My oldest daughters still to this day talk about “Mrs Peggy’s Lasagna”!
I am so sorry for your hurt. I’m sorry I missed the service. I’m keeping grand babies this week. May God hold you and Cindy in the palm of His hands.
Candy and Cindy, my thoughts and prayers are with y’all and the rest of the family. Your mom was one of the sweetest ladies I ever met.
