Evelyn “Grandma” was born on June 3, 1921 in Harlan, Iowa to Fred and Tilla Blair. Evelyn grew up in Harlan, Iowa and spent much of her time with her good friend Jean Alice, where you could often find them at the local skating rink. She graduated from Harlan High School, and began a career as a telephone operator.
After saving up some money while working at the telephone company, Evelyn decided to take a trip to visit friends in Washington and California. While in Arcata, California, Evelyn took a job at a laundry cleaning business. This business was located near a Navy base, and she soon met John D Reneau when he brought his Navy uniform in to be cleaned.
John and Evelyn were married on June 20, 1944 in Arcata, California.
For a brief time, Evelyn and John moved back to Harlan, Iowa before deciding to move to Texas where John was originally from. They lived in West Texas for several years before settling in Savoy where she has lived for the past 60 years. Evelyn has been loved by many friends and her family. She enjoyed going to local county music shows and taking trips to Branson, Missouri. She loved to crochet and made many afghans for all of her family. She was a member of the Savoy Church of Christ. Evelyn was always very proud of her family, and loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter Cheryl Young and husband Larry of Savoy, TX. Grandchildren Teri Elk and husband Steve, Michelle Johnson and husband Lance, and Justin Young, all of Savoy, TX. Great-Grandchildren Jared and Derek Elk, Hailey and Hayden Johnson, and Austin Young.
