O.E. was the financial secretary for the International Association of Machinists. After retirement, he enjoyed working with his son in construction.

They have four children; Brenda, Bud, Bonnie, and Bridget. They made their home in Sherman and Van Alstyne before moving to Bells. O.E. served the Bells community as president of the school board and the Panther Booster club. He also played an integral part in beginning the Bells Ambulance Service. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Bells.
