August 7, 1925 –  August 22, 2013 Oren Lemuel Fisher age 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 22, 2013. He passed away at his residence, The Renaissance in Sherman, after a battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. Oren was born in Van Nuys, CA on August 7, 1925 to Lem Fisher and Ruth Angermier Fisher. He lived in California until May 1934 when the family moved to Wayside, Texas to farm in the West Texas dry land. He married the “love of his life,” Melba Beatrice Kennedy. They graduated together in 1943. Melba was the Valedictorian and Oren was the Salutorian. (They were the only two in their class.) They were married on December 22, 1944 and had completed 61 years of love together when Melba passed away on February 15, 2006.
Oren and his Dad owned Fisher Butane Company in Canyon, Texas until 1964 when he graduated from WTSU with a degree in education. He taught special education with Amarillo Independent Schools until 1967 when he and Melba moved to Lubbock, Texas and he became a counselor for Texas Rehabilitation Commission. Oren got his Masters Degree from Texas Tech and 32 plus graduate hours. After 15 years as a Rehab Counselor, Oren returned to teaching at Roosevelt School, Lorenzo School and finished at Spade I.S.D.

Oren and Melba retired in May of 1989 from teaching and traveled the U.S., Canada, and Nova Scotia in their 5th wheel. In 1994, they purchased a home in Savoy, Texas. They continued to travel until 2005 when Melba passed away. They were members of the Lake Texoma Chapter of Good Sam’s Club. Oren held various offices in the club over the years. They made many new and wonderful friends in their travels.

Oren is survived by his daughters Ann Bledsoe (Dick) of Midland, Janie Brown (Nolan) of Canyon, and Kay Tidwell (Bob) of Savoy. He had five grandchildren Brent Brown of Austin, Stephen Brown (Angela) of Canyon, Brian Bledsoe (Jane) of Midland, Chris Bledsoe (Sommer) of Midland, and Allison Peteet (John) of Harleton. He has eight great grandchildren Sydni and Jaymi Walker of Midland, Kaitlyn and Jackson Bledsoe of Midland, Carmen and Conner Brown of Canyon, and Genna K. and Camp Peteet of Harleton. He is also survived by two brothers Robert Fisher (Wanda) of Fairfield, CA and Kenneth Fisher (Kathy) of Hot Springs Village, AR, and one sister Elaine White (Don) of Sun City West, AZ and a host of family and friends.

Oren was saved at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Savoy, TX. He had taught a Men’s Sunday School Class and a Sunday School Class at Mullican Nursing Home. He loved to sing and play his Q Chord at church and local nursing homes.
Services will be at Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel at Bells/Savoy, Texas on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 11:00AM. Family visitation will be one hour before the service from 10:00AM until 11:00AM. The service will be officiated by Reverend Bill Sessom and Reverend Chris Merritt. Interment will be in Little Jordan Cemetery East of Savoy.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Brian Bledsoe, Chris Bledsoe, John Peteet, Stephen Brown, Brent Brown, nephew Lee Fisher and special friends Dan Fitzgerald and Bill Bibby.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Michael Benson and his staff, Home Hospice of Grayson County for their compassionate care for Dad during his last days, especially to April, his nurse. Also a special thanks to his loving caregivers Peggy Broach and Candy Pulliam. A special thank you Bob and Mary, managers at the Renaissance in Sherman and all of his loving friends there who loved him and supported him while he lived there.
