January 20, 1931 – August 20, 2012 Barbara Ruth Stoehr, n`ee Davis, originally from Marietta, Georgia, passed into the loving hands of her Savior on the morning of August 20, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Gene F. Stoehr; her daughter, Ariella, n`ee Stoehr, Wood from Georgia; son-in-law, Tony Wood from Texas; granddaughter, Megan Rose Wood from Georgia; sisters-in-law, Nancy Burbacher and Joy Thonen of Ohio; and the Witherspoon kids, Joe, Annell, Sharon, Thomas and Lisa of Texas; her best friend, Helen Layman and husband, Hoyt of Texas; and many cousins, friends, and loved ones from California, Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Georgia.
Barbara last lived in Denison with her husband, Gene, and the Wood children. Prior, she lived in Bells with Gene where they were active members of the First Baptist Church of Bells. Barbara and Gene were married at the First Baptist Church of Bells in 2004.
Barbara moved to Texas from Georgia in 2002 with her late husband, Jack L. Nelms, who was originally from Texas. They had previously resided together in Conyer, Georgia for 25 years. Jack predeceased her here in Texas in 2003, and was laid to rest in the Rose Hill cemetery.
Born in Dalton, Georgia, she worked for Southern Bell in Marietta, and later as an analyst at Allstate in Atlanta until retirement. In Georgia, she was predeceased by her parents, Meridam M. and Allie, n`ee Bearden, Davis; sister, Mary Stoehr, n`ee Kerby, and brother, Daniel Kerby.
There will be a memorial service officiated by Brother Bill Neal, Jr. and a dinner in honor of Barbara at the First Baptist Church of Bells at 5:00 P.M., Saturday, September 8, 2012. Those wishing to send flowers are asked to send live outdoor plants/flowers that can be added to the family’s memorial garden where Barbara will be laid to rest.
